Chương 26 - Trọng Đức
重 德
Hán văn:
重 為 輕 根. 靜 為 躁 君. 是 以 聖 人 終 日 行 不 離 輜 重. 雖 有 榮 觀, 燕 處 超 然. 奈 何 萬 乘 之 主, 而 以 身 輕 天 下? 輕 則 失 根, 躁 則 失 君.

1. Trọng vi khinh căn. Tĩnh vi táo quân.
2. Thị dĩ thánh nhân chung nhật hành bất ly tri trọng. Tuy hữu vinh quan, yến xử siêu nhiên.
3. Nại hà vạn thặng chi chủ, nhi dĩ thân khinh thiên hạ. Khinh tắc thất căn , táo tắc thất quân.
Dịch xuôi:
1. Nặng là gốc của nhẹ. Tĩnh là chủ của xao động.
2. Cho nên thánh nhân suốt ngày rong ruổi, mà không bỏ mất sự trang trọng, yên tĩnh. Tuy sống trong vinh hoa, mà lòng vẫn thung dung sống vượt lên trên.
3. Tại sao vua một nước có muôn cỗ xe lại đem thân coi nhẹ thiên hạ. Nhẹ ắt mất gốc, xao động ắt mất chủ.

(Người) trang trọng hơn (người) nhẹ (dạ)
(Người) thung dung chúa (gã) long đong.
Đường đường là đấng thánh nhân,
Suốt ngày rong ruổi, vẫn không buông tuồng.
Tuy rằng ở chỗ cao sang,
Tâm hồn thư thái, chẳng màng phồn hoa.
Làm vua thống trị sơn hà,
Cớ sao dở thói kiêu sa lộng quyền.
Buông tuồng là mất căn nguyên.
Lo toan trăm nỗi là quên mất Trời.

Heaviness is the root of lightness
Heaviness is the root of lightness.
Composure is the ruler of instability.
Therefore the sage travels all day
Without putting down his heavy load.
Though there may be spectacles to see
He easily passes them by.
This being so
How could the ruler of a large state
Be so concerned with himself as to ignore the people?
If you take them lightly you will lose your roots.
If you are unstable, you will lose your rulership.

CENTRING
The natural way is the way of the sage, serving as his dwelling, providing his centre deep within, whether in his home or journeying.
Even when he travels far, he is not separatefrom his own true nature. Maintaining awareness of natural beauty, he still does not forget his purpose.
Although he may dwell in a grand estate, simplicity remains his guide, for he is full aware, that losing it, his roots as well would disappear. So he is not restless, lest he loses the natural way.
Similarly, the people's leader is not flippant in his role, nor restless, for these could cause the loss of the roots of leadership.
